Guides & insights

Buy and sell with confidence.

Straight-talking guides for getting the most out of a verified, farmer-to-farmer network.

Selling your machine, step by step

Selling on Tractor Exchange is deliberately quick — the AI does the write-up. To get the best result:

  • Photograph it well. Daylight, clean machine, all four corners, the cab/controls, the hours on the clock, and any wear or damage — honesty sells faster.
  • Answer the quick questions. The AI reads your photos, then asks a couple of things to confirm — year, hours, spec, service history and why you're selling.
  • Price it right. Check what similar kit is making. A fair price with honest photos beats an optimistic one that sits.
  • Reply promptly. Buyers move on. When an enquiry lands, get back quickly.

Buying on Tractor Exchange

Every seller is reviewed and approved before they can list, but a good deal still comes down to doing your homework:

  • Read the full spec. Check make, model, year, hours and condition against what you need.
  • Ask questions early. Use the Enquire button — service history, reason for sale, known faults.
  • See it in person. Photos tell most of the story, not all of it. Inspect before you commit.
  • Deal direct. You and the seller agree the price and settle your own way.

Buying safely: a farmer's checklist

Verification lowers the risk of who you're dealing with. These steps cover the rest:

  • Inspect the machine yourself, or send someone who knows what to look for.
  • Confirm ownership. Make sure the seller actually owns the machine and it's free of finance.
  • Match it to the listing. Serial/chassis plate, hours and spec should line up with the advert.
  • Use traceable payment. Avoid pressure to pay in a hurry or by untraceable means.
  • Tell us if anything looks off. If a listing or member seems wrong, report it and a person will read it.
